Scrapbook Page of the Week: Background Basics by Heather Nichols from Pine is Here

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbook page by Heather Nichols from Pine Is Here

This is a beautiful page - I love the soft pastels mixed the kraft paper and the black and white photo.  I can get a "mood" from looking at this page.  Doesn't hurt to have a beautiful girl like this (God only gave me smelly ol' boys...).  What I love about Heather's post is that she shows you how to recreate this page step by step.  I love it when artist's share detailed instructions -- I mean seriously -- we are all looking to learn more techniques.  Here, Heather stamped the background images on different soft pastel papers to create her own pattered paper.  She also shows you how to get the great glittery effect on that heart.  Check it out.

Runner Up: Flying High by Melanie Douthit from Enjoy the Journey

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbook page Flying High by Melanie Douthit from Enjoy the Journey

WOW. What a shot!  Yes, when my boys do this, I'll be a nervous wreak!  However, I hope get rid of the shakes in time to CASE this awesome layout.  I usually scrap multiple photos on a page -- I'm an "events" scrapper -- but when you catch one great moment, you have to preserve the memory.  Melanie can exact her revenge for this teen's disregard for his mother's blood pressure by showing this scrapbook page to her son's children (in several years)!

Mini-Book of the Week:  4th Birthday by Maren from Zany Not Crazy

CardoftheWeek.com featured mini-scrapbook by Maren from Zany Not Crazy

CardoftheWeek.com featured mini-scrapbook by Maren from Zany Not Crazy

You'll have to click on over to see the other AMAZING pages in this mini book.  I love how Maren made the photos stretch over 2 pages of the book.  The end result is fun, unique, and special.  Click on over to see the other pages!

Runner Up: 25 Days of Christmas by Bobbi-Jo from It Works for Me

CardoftheWeek.com featured daily Christmas mini-scrapbook by Bobbi-Jo from It Works for Me

I love this concept -- it's from Ali Edwards. The idea is to have a daily mini book made BEFORE Christmas starts so that it's not another thing on the "pain list", but a way to preserve the memories of the joy and bustle of the holiday season.  I love Bobbi's book and how she designed it -- check out her blog to see the other inside pages.

On the same note - check out this post from Bobbi to show you a similar idea for Thanksgiving.  This is a digi download from Heidi Swap and really a great idea for getting ready for Thanksgiving.  Have it pre-made and everyone can fill it what they are thankful for on "Turkey Day".

Runner Up:  Thanksgiving by Desiree De Monye from Desiree At Play

CardoftheWeek.com featured thanksgiving acrylic mini-scrapbook by Desiree de Monye from Desiree at Play

Another great Thanksgiving Album, but using all Stampin' Up! products and a clear acrylic binder.  I love how this turned out and it's a keepsake.

one more... I'm on a roll...

Runner Up:  Grateful by Stephanie Howell from Just Me

CardoftheWeek.com featured Thanksgiving mini-scrapbook by Stephanie Howell from Just Me

Scrapbook Page of the Week: Worst Day Ever By Stephanie Howell from Me & My Two Little Chicks

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbook page by Stephanie Howell

This entire blog post had me chuckling -- I have had so many days like this!  However, when I have a bad day, I ususally end up floating in my bathtub nursing a scrapbook magazine and a glass of wine -- I don't turn out gorgeous layouts like this one!!!  I love this -- simple style, great butterflies, beautiful baby.  I especially like the doodle letters.  Nice touch.  Go check out Stephanie's blog and leave her some love :D

Runner Up: Quick Share by Kelly Goree from Behind the Pages

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbook page by Kelly Goree from Behind the Pages

OK, I can totally explain why I love this -- it's HARMONY.  The wood paper, the colors, the leaves, all remind me of autumn.  There is a mood set here -- that's something most scrapbookers forget about.  Love it.  Go over to Kelly's blog for supplies and to see some of her other fantastic projects.

Mini-Book of the Week:  Family Gratitude Spinner Project by Ali Edwards

CardoftheWeek.com featured project family photo spinner by Ali Edwards

Ali's amazing and I love that she came up with the idea for this project.  This would be a delightful project to have on hand for Thanksgiving.  So clever.  Click on over to see how she puts it together and get the details.

Runner Up: Nested Flower Mini Album by Ellen Hutson from The Classroom

Scrapbook Page of the Week: Big Pumpkin Eats Little Pumpkins by Janet featured on the Designer Digitals Blog

CardoftheWeek.com featured halloween scrapbook page by Janet featured on the Designer Digitals blog

I try not to feature projects from other sites that are featuring artists from other sites... it's like looking in a mirror looking in a mirror... gets too complicated.  However, sometimes I see something that just grabs me and I have to share.  I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this page.  I laughed so hard I choked on my Diet Coke and then I knew it was a shoe in for Scrapbook Page of the Week.  Janet's sense of humor really shines and I love it that she thought to preserve the memory for the rest of us.  I'm totally doing this next year.  Hysterical.

Runner Up: Lil Artist by Gwen from Gwen's Blog

CardoftheWeek.com featured lil artist scrapbook page by Gwen

First, Happy Birthday Gwen and thanks so much for sharing this beautiful page!!!!  Such a simple layout and I just love it!  I thought this was digital because of the circular journaling... then I knew it was hybrid because I have those Thicker stickers used for the title.  Brilliant.  Clever.  FAB.  I love it when we can have it all - the convenience of digital and the textures and dimension of traditional scrapping.

Mini-Book of the Week:  Got Kit by Carla Peicheff from Moralia's Weblog

CardoftheWeek.com featured mini scrapbook by Carla Peicheff from Moralia's weblog

Carla pulled this gorgeous book together from a kit and some coasters.  I forget sometimes how much versatility there is in a prepackaged kit -- love the idea that all the  papers and embellishments are coordinated for you.  Really, think about it -- this is pretty simple to pull off now that Carla's given us the idea!  Click on over for other views of the album, and for information on ordering the kit.

Runner Up: CHA Summer Album by Emily Jones from Who Me

CardoftheWeek.com featured mini travel scrapbook album by Emily Jones from Who Me

I'll make you click on over for the inside pages -- it's totally worth it.  This little mini-book is awesome -- using all the new American Crafts travel papers and embellishments.  I'm seriously toying with the idea of going to Winter CHA in California.  I think I'll be CASING this brilliant idea to save those memories!  Adorable book, Emily!

For those of you who love mini scrapbooks and are thinking of making one for the holidays -- don't miss this blog post from MINI-BOOK MASTER:  Ali Edwards :D  http://aliedwards.typepad.com/_a_/2008/10/december-dail-3.html

Scrapbook Page of the Week: Summer by Betsy from Tinkering Ink

CardoftheWeek.com featured summer scrapbook page by Betsy from Tinkering Ink

I think it's the feeling of movement that really attracted me to this page.  I love how the swirl and the flowers and the little girl's tank top all seem create a sort of whirlpool of color.  I also love, love, love all the colors.  Click on over to Betsy's blog for supplies and more details :D

Runner Up: Weekend Stuff by Janna from Janna Wilson's Blog

CardoftheWeek.com featured pumpkin scrapbook page by Janna Wilson

I have a scrap-crush on Janna Wilson.  I've taken Got Sketch 101 and am signed up for Got Sketch Express.  I love how she creates these great interactive pages with hidden journaling.  Doesn't hurt that she's got such cute kids :D  Click on over for details.

Mini-Book of the Week:  Halloween Mini-book by Ali Edwards

CardoftheWeek.com featured halloween mini-scrapbook by Ali Edwards

Ali Edwards is the most famous scrapbooker that I can think of and this is a good sample of why.  Great layouts -- not too complicated -- clever -- interesting.  I love this Halloween mini-book.  I guess since Halloween is on FRIDAY I should get started on this!  Click on over to Ali's site to see the inside pages and find out how to make your own book!

Runner Up: Cupcake Recipe Book by Kimberly from The Love of Paper

Scrapbook Page of the Week: Happy Owl-o-Ween by Kelly Goree

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbook page from the pumpkin patch by Kelly Goree

I discovered Kelly's blog this week and boy, you could hear the squeals of delight down the street.  WOW what a FANTASTIC scrapper!  I love the shots that Kelly captures and her fun, playful style.  I also love that she combines stamping and scrapping -- my two favorite mediums.  Run (don't walk) over to Kelly's blog to check her out.  I have about 1/2 of her posts bookmarked now!!!!  (I should rave about this particular layout more, but you can see how clever and fun it is!)

Runner Up: Halloween Friend by Kristina Werner at KWerner Design Blog

I've said it a few times (I tend to repeat myself :P), I was thrilled when Kristina was picked as a 2 Peas Garden Girl because I would see more of her scrapbook pages.  I must be in a mood today, because this page just grabbed me.  I just love Kristina's fun style.  I love the big, page filling, images.  I love that she not only bought this goofy Halloween Monster but took him in the front yard and photographed him!  The entire thing just had me laughing.  Had to share.  Just had to.

Scrapbook Page of the Week: Indulge by Lisa Dickinson from KI Memories School Days

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbooker Lisa Dickinson

OK, tell me you love this page as much as I do!  Maybe it's because I adore shoes, Starbucks and flowers, but I especially love how Lisa pulled all of this together.  Really great color scheme and fun sketch.  Click on over to the KI site to check out more of Lisa's work.  (Hey Lisa, if you have a blog of your own, comment here -- I'd LOVE to see more of your stuff!)

Runner Up: Pencil Lines #105 by Sasha Farina from Collection of Moments

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbooker Sasha Farina

Clean, simple lines.  Vibrant pictures. Bold title. Kraft cardstock.  LOVE IT!  This is one of those layouts that just leaps off the screen to me.  Great work Sasha!

Runner Up: Snowflakes by Heather Nichols from Pine is Here
Cardoftheweek.com featured scrapbook page by Heather Nichols

I feature Heather a lot because I seriously love her work.  We're drawn to the same color schemes and I love the rustic feel of her pages.   I also completely adore how Heather uses her supplies to create her own papers and embellishments and end up with fabulous "unified" pages and cards.  Check it out -- this is one stamp set (I'm not counting the journaling), ONE piece of paper, some ink, a couple of punches, some buttons & ribbon.  You could use these things in 1000 ways and in the end, your costs are low.  Love that.  Heather even included a step by step tutorial walking you through all the techniques used to make this page.  Click on over and check it out.

Mini-Book of the Week:  Our Family by Kelleigh Ratzlaff from Ratzlaff Reflections

Scrapbook Page of the Week: Lions and Tigers and Bears by Christine Middlecamp from Retrospection

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbook page by Christine Middlecamp from Retrospection

Christine Middlecamp is amazing.  You'll have to click on over to her blog to lose hours reviewing her scrapbook projects.  She's really incredibly talented.  This page is one of those pages that shows how different products and techniques can all work together to create something great.  I'm a cat person (have the new kitten sleeping on me as a type) and this page really grabbed me.  On the original post, Christine explains that she sacrificed her original plan for this page in order to finish the project.  I took a lot of mental solace that I'm not the only one to spend 3 days on something and end up in a completely different direction from the one I started.  I love this page.  I'm glad Christine's original vision didn't workout here.

Runner Up: Coming Out of Hiding by Stephanie Howell from Stephanie Howell's blog

CardoftheWeek.com featured scrapbook page by Stephanie Howell

Vibrant? You betcha!  I love all the "POP" here.  The black and white, the rhinestone bling, the bracket frame -- all in the same color scheme.  The photo pops right off the page surrounded by flowers and lime green (felt?) letters.  I just love all the contrast here.
Mini-Book of the Week:  Transparent Mini Album by Karen Russell from Snapshots (of a good life)

CardoftheWeek.com featured mini scrapbook album by Karen Russell

I had this flagged as the mini-book of the week about 10 seconds after I saw it.  I LOVE this!  The colors here are great - the mini frame ROCKS.  All of it.  It features 68 photos all laid out in the most clever and amazing way.  You'll have to click over to see the inside pages .. I'm a tease like that :D

Runner Up:  Lil' Scrappers Mini-Kit Reveal by Carla from Carla's Blog

CardoftheWeek.com featured mini-scrapbook by Carla at Carla's Blog

CardoftheWeek.com altered tin by Carla from Carla's blog

How flippin' adorable is this?!!!  WOW.  The mini-book "lives" in the cute little lunch pail that says "forget me not" -- as if anyone could forget such an adorable child!!!  Check out the butterfly ribbon!  Cute!!!  I need one of my friends to have a baby girl so that I can CASE this.  Just fabulous.  Click on over for more pictures.

Scrapbook Page of the Week:  First Day of School by Wendy Price from Paper, Ink and Smiles

This is the perfect scrapbook page to me.  I love the hybrid/fusion technique of journaling on the picture -- it's interesting, and I hate my handwriting.  I love that she used a vintage look on the photos and had fun with Photoshop.  I love that she stamped and sewed on traditional paper to make the background paper more interesting.  I love that she stamped the embellishments and the title.  This is what hybrid scrapbooking is all about -- bringing together all your favorite features of every technique and using them together to make a new fabulous "whole".  I already scrapped the first day of school this year, but I think I'll borrow some ideas from this to tackle "picture day" or baseball.  Great, great, great work Wendy.  I'm loving it.  (By the way, I just counted -- I said "love" 5 times in one paragraph.  I need a thesaurus.)

Runner Up:  Dreamy by Stephanie Howell at Stephanie Howell's blog

This layout just makes me sigh.  I am totally digging that transparency 12x12 background paper.  Stephanie colored it!  Coloring is my favorite part of crafting and I think this layout is AWESOME.  I never would have put the floral paper with the blue marker transparency, but it works.  I also think that changing the photo to black and white in this case draws your eye to the picture so much  more than if the photo was left in color.  GORGEOUS!

Mini-Book of the Week: A Day in the Life of a Princess by Betsy from Paper, Scissors and Superheroes

This is one of those projects that makes my stomach tighten that I don't have a daughter.  This is just so incredibly beautiful -- and romantic.  The book is great, but the 3D embellishments really make it special.  Click on over to Betsy's blog to see the other pages (really awesome) and the box from the side view.  The entire project is off the hook AMAZING.

Runner Up:  Shabby Winter Chic by Shari at the Hero Arts Blog

Despite the fact that I currently can't fit into any of my winter clothes, this mini-book is causing me to crave Winter.  These pictures are gorgeous, the paper is beautiful, I love the peek-a-boo circles and the stamped overlays.  In fact, there is nothing I don't like about this book.  I want to make it!  You'll have to click on over to see the other pages -- they are all equally good -- you'll be so inspired!

Scrapbook Saturday

Scrapbook Page of the Week: Faith by Lauren at Enjoy Life

I'm going to have to rename the Scrapbook Saturday portion of my blog to "What is Lauren Glick making now?"  No, I'm not on Lauren's payroll -- she just consistently makes scrapbook pages that are above and beyond.  I love the colors and the layout here -- but what makes this page special is that the picture swings aside to reveal hidden journaling.  The picture is also on an envelope, so inside are more journaling cards that really talk about her faith.  Interactive pages physically bring your reader into your page and I love that.

Runner UpMarley and Me by Tracie at My Scattered Thoughts

I found Tracie through a magazine.  I loved her layouts so much that I learned her name and Googled her for her blog.  For a long time, I just got to peak into her world and see her photography, but more and more, I'm seeing her great scrapbook pages.  This layout is all digital, but it wouldn't be hard to copy the concept and make it a traditional or hybrid page.   I also really enjoy that this page is about Tracie, but the photograph is of a book.  Nice work.

Funny Honorable Mention:  Back to Obedience School by Kathy02 from the Designer Digitals blog

Unfortunately, I don't have a way to let Kathie know that I found this layout absolutely hilarious.  I laughed so hard that my Diet Coke came back up my nose... not a fun moment.  Really clever.  Love it -- had to share.

Mini-Book of the Week:  Just Dad by Christine at Retrospection

WOW.  No kidding.  Click on over and see the inside.  WOW.  Every page is better than the one before.  Tremendous detail.  This is an heirloom.  WOW.

Runner Up:  Summer Mini Hybrid Album by Jen at Jen Tapler Designs

Scrapbook Saturday

Sorry the post is a little late -- today is Jake's 7th birthday!  I've been working on the cake and party set up and trying to squeeze blogging into the bits of inbetween time!

Scrapbook Page of the Week:  52 Week Scrapbook (Week 13) by Lauren at Enjoy Life

52week13fullpage
Lauren is an amazing scrapper.  I have loved her blog and she's changed the way I scrap.  I want every page to be interactive, because I love how she draws you into her memories!  Click on over to Lauren's site to see the inside page -- yes, the front photo is the first page of a mini-album!

Runner Up:  Extended Vacay by Jennifer at The Good Life

Passport
I found Jennifer's blog through 2Peas and have been hooked.  Jennifer has a really fun style!  I'm already mentally planning my next scrapbook page based on this Extended Vacay piece.  I love the map cut out -- it's a brilliant idea to use embellishments and shapes to help convey your theme.  Jennifer is really good at tying  the entire page to the theme.
***
Mini-Book of the Week:  Altered Frame by Rhonda at Help [ME] Rhonda

RP Cherish Frame for print

E altered frame

I had a hard time classifying this frame and ended up deciding it was a mini-book.    I think it's a brilliant idea to hide your scrapbooks in plain sight.  How fun would it be to have your Mother-in-law discover that the picture she's admiring is actually a mini-scrapbook all about your kids recent playdate at her house?!  Just an idea -- I think it's fun.  Rhonda is the first one I've seen come up with this idea and I think it ROCKS OUT LOUD.  You go girl!

Mini-Book Runner Up: Rustic Envelope Book by Heather at Pine is Here

07-03-08-01307-03-08-003

Heather is one of the most creative people out there in the blogosphere.  She actually designed this amazing Rustic Branch stamp set and completely ROCKS how useful it is!  Using stamps to make background paper is a clever, economical way to stretch your stash and create coordinating peices that are truly custom.  This book really showcases how stamping and scrapbooking go together.  You'll have to click on over to Heather's site to see how she pulls this book together.
