Best of the Blogosphere and Card of the Week: May 15-22, 2009

I'd just like to start this post by saying I feel incredibly blessed to be part of this community.  Look over to the right ... do you SEE how much money we've raised for Alzheimer's?!  The event hasn't even started yet!  We're going to meet our goal before we even launch!  I'm totally pumped.  You guys are the BEST!

For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, click back to last week's post and and watch my video.  The Stampin' Out Alzheimer's Event begins on Monday.  There will be seven full days of contests, challenges, and freebies.  We have just over 40 sponsors, including scrap celebrities like Ali Edwards.  Come and join us -- you'll have a ball, we'll raise money, and it's going to be GREAT!  You can help by spreading the word...

Best of the Blogosphere lists. Remember these lovely little boxes don't show up in Google Reader, so if you can't see them, click on over to my site and they will magically appear. (When you see the boxes, there is a small "read more" in the bottom, right hand corner... click it and you can see the list with pictures as a web page!)

The Shout Out List (my favorite CARDS OF THE WEEK): The cards and projects that earned some extra love and attention this week. The best of the best. You people ROCK MY WORLD :D

Stampin' Out Alzheimers, Card of the Week and Best of the Blogosphere, May 16 - 22, 2009

Check out we're doing now....

Ignore that badge at the end... here's a better one.. the "real one".

Jen Tapler, from Jen Tapler Designs, and I are hosting a 7 day stamping and scrapbooking event to help raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's Disease.  The site, Stampin Out Alzheimers.ning.com,  will feature challenges, contests, classes and more - with prizes donated from over 30 generous sponsors.  We've worked it as a "Pay to Play" community.  For a small donation (any amount will do), you'll get permission to join our online community which will be up from May 25 to June 1st.  The site isn't "live" yet - it will open soon and the events will begin on Monday.  I'd love it if you'd share the badge on your blog and help us spread the word.  We'd like this to be the largest community fund raising effort in the stamping and scrapbooking space.  Please help.

You're Out of This World

Molly out of this world sk0502090114-2 I promised that I would bring you another Molly card on Monday and here it is! I used Melanie Muenchinger's sketch for this week's Paper Craft Planet challenge.  As soon as I saw the layout, I just "saw" this card in my mind.

Some things the photo won't show you:

  • It's really, really, really, sparkly.  The black background is actually sprayed with the new Glitter Mist spray from Tattered Angels.  I used Pearl.  This stuff is SO MUCH FUN!
  • I also used a Copic At You Spica pen in silver on the space ship, along with some crystal effects on the dome to give the card some shine.
  • The moon in the background is just a line image of the moon that I searched up on Google.  I printed it, sprayed it with Glitter Mist and declared it perfection.

I LOVE my camera, but I'd love to really catch the sparkle.  Here's a different angle... you can see a little... but not a lot.  Just go with me... this card has bling!

Over the Moon for Molly :-)

Molly out of this world citronella0123-3 I know you'll all groan when I say this, but I can't help it... "I'm over the MOON" for this new Molly Stamps set!  I sat down tonight and started playing and by the time I was done, it was 2am!  I got completely carried away, but I'm going to only show you this one card and make you wait for another creation for a few days.  Instead I'll leave you with a peek at the new stamps from Molly Stamps that went on sale today....Out of This World.

Stop back Monday and I'll be sure to have a card for you by then. That's after I catch a few zzzzzz's. LOL!!! Night all!

Paper Crafting 101, Best of the Blogosphere: April 10 - 17, 2009

Well, tomorrow begins what I fondly refer to as "birthday hell week".  It starts with my husband's birthday and ends with my father-in-law's, and sandwiches 8 birthdays in between.  I'm a HUGE procrastinator, so of course, no cards are made and no shopping has been done.  Seriously, the blog is more important, right?  I will hopefully find the time to take pictures of everything after I make it so I can at least share what I fondly call "creativity under pressure" crafting.

I added Mr. Linky below -- I'd love it if you'd sign in/up if you are reading this and you'd like me to read your blog.

Throwing down a CHALLENGE!

Check this out - my fellow Papercraft Planet Super Nova, Jen Tapler, is hosting a challenge on her blog with over $250 worth of blog candy up for grabs. You can read all the details HERE on Jen's blog. Jen's father has Alzheimer's disease and by participating in her challenge, you will be helping benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
All you have to do is create a card, post a photo of it with a link back to Jen's challenge, and then mail Jen the card.

In May, to kick off her Annual Stamp Out Alzheimer's Event, Jen will be hosting a charity auction where she will be auctioning off decorated Card Organizer tins full of all of our handcrafted cards. The money from those auctions will go directly to the Alzheimer's Association. I participate in challenges all the time, it is so nice to know that with this one, I will be contributing to such an important and worthwhile cause. I hope you will join me.

If you'd like to spread the word, click on "reblog" and help me share the challenge!  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in the Mood for You

Mood for you_0218
I needed a Valentine's Day card for my husband and he's really not into the "mushy stuff".  I decided that Molly's quirky style fit Rob and I pretty well and  came up with this card using the Today's Forecast set.

It's hard to see in this picture, but there is a spinner in the center that really spins.  Can you see the little mood labels in the white space?  My favorite thing about the polymer stamps is the flexibility.

The big sentiment was just printed on my computer and cut out.

Here's another angle so that you can see the inside.

In Case of Emergency, Print This!

I'm trying something new -- and I'm really excited about it.  Jen Tapler and I got together to create this one of a kind Valentine's Day Card Kit.

The Valentine’s Day Kit is all about covering your bases. Now you have four different, gorgeous cards that will work for anyone in your life -- a significant other, a child, a teacher... anyone! We’ve even thrown in a couple of quick and easy candy boxes, including Hershey Nugget labels, and two treat bags for those last minute gifts. All you need to complete this kit is white cardstock, a color printer, scissors and adhesive (pop dots and regular). You're welcome to dive into your ribbon and button stash or leave the cards "as is". You do NOT need Photoshop or any other fancy program. The entire kit is a pdf file that will open up with Adobe Reader (which you probably already have on your computer.)

“Hybrid” is just a word that means “computer meets traditional tape and paper crafting.” That’s what you’re doing here -- harnessing your most powerful crafting tool (your computer) and using it to simplify your paper crafting. The best part is that you’ll never run out of these cards -- you can print 20 treat bags for the cost of just your printer ink and paper.

We created some printable pages that you can use to recreate the cards with very few additional supplies. If you want to dress them up, we’ve given you some ideas there too. All you have to do is hit “print”, cut out the embellishments, add some tape and you’re done. You can look like a superstar in under 15 minutes.

Seriously, for the price of your Starbuck's coffee, your Valentine's Day needs are all covered.  Got to love it.
