Scrappy Sunday and Scrapbook Saturday -- October 18 - 25, 2009

Hey everyone. I told Jen that I would do my best to post this week's Scrappy Sunday Challenge, while she's out of town. If this gets posted I'll be amazed as I haven't a clue what I'm doing, especially late in night Saturday. :) No worries, all will be back to normal next week & Jen will be back administering this.

This week's sketch might require a bit of rough draft so you can get the journaling around the outside of the page. I think it looks cool ever since I saw Ali Edwards do it on her layouts & if you can do it in your own handwriting, how lovely & personal. Digi scrappers & traditional scrappers, hopefully you'll have some fun with this. I did forget to sketch in embellishments, with all the pics on the page ... um sorry :) I'm sure you'll all be able to find somewhere to put them in (for me I just did it around the photos themselves).

The sketch is in 12"x12" square format, but you can switch it up to fit your scrapbook (flip or rotate the sketch, and move things around a bit, but try to stay true to the basic outline of the sketch. Have Fun!!) I've always scrapbooked in 8.5x11", but the basic square template is there. Anyhow, I hope some of you will have the chance to play along.

I'm really sorry about the lateness of this post. I took a much needed day of rest yesterday! Paper Craft Planet's Scrappy Sunday Challenge: Hi! Sorry I missed you guys last week!! Thanks Susanna for taking over for me!! I'm going to be out of town for continuing education for work next week, so I'll have a guest hostess next week as well, so everyone be on your best behavior!! (I'm having flash backs to grade school when the teacher would tell us we were going to have a substitute the next day!! hee hee). This week's sketch was actually designed by one of our former Scrappy Sunday Guest Designers, the oh-so-talented Crystal Livesay! Crystal recently opened up shop at the Digichick and is designing and selling digital templates inspired by her own amazing scrapbook layouts! Check out her store HERE. I've purchased all of her templates packs so far and they are seriously AWESOME!! If you're a digi scrapper and like to use a template, these are definitely a must-have!! If you'd like to buy the entire kit (it comes with 4 templates total) that includes the template I used for this week's sketch (and make your scrapping super easy this week if you're a digi scrapper), you can pick it up HERE in Crystal's store at the Digichick. Here's a look at the sketch:

The sketch features one main photo with lots of fun layered papers. Those "x"s represent embellishments of your choice. Feel free to include additional photos if you're a multi-photo scrapper, just try to stay true to the original sketch by building off the main focal point. Scrappy Sunday and the Scrapbooking BOB - 10/04/09

Hey! Sorry about the posting delay.  I spent yesterday getting Copic Certified!!! (Whoo Whooo!)  I'm adding a new list to our Scrappy Sunday Best of the Blogosphere -- it's the "Thumbs Up!" list.  It's a Shout Out list for our scrappers.  I thought it was time to have our own way of praising those amazing, above and beyond pages -- you know, the ones you book mark and go back to time and time again.

 For our Scrappy Sunday Challenge this week, we have some fun news, so I'll turn the "mic" over to Jen....

Wow! Can you believe it's already October!?!? Crazy, huh? This week's sketch should be an easy one for ya - I kept it pretty simple with very few layers (feel free to add them). I'd like to add an optional "bonus challenge" for you to include some interesting title work on your page, making it a focal point of your layout. (See my sample for inspiration).

Scrappy Sunday Challenge and Best of the Scrapbook Blogosphere - 9/20/09

OK, it's Scrappy Sunday on Paper Craft Planet.  I don't have time to play along today, but this is page one of a two pager and I am definitely going to break out my supplies and do this one.  Hopefully, I can get my sample up for you tomorrow. 

Onto Scrappy Sunday....

Hi guys! I'm going to keep this super short and sweet as everyone around here has been majorly sick with a nasty stomach bug all weekend!! NOT fun!! Susanna will be back in a bit in the main forum to announce the winner of the MAC Photoshop Elements!!

As promised, this week's sketch is a close match to last week's and is intended to work as the 2nd page of a 2-page layout. In fact, this week's sketch looks a lot like a flipped version of last week's sketch with things shifted slightly downward and replacing one of the square photos with a vertical photo. But I wanted to take this opportunity to show how easy it is to take a sketch and come up with a 2nd coordinating page for a 2-page spread. I do this quite often (flip it, shift some things and change the orientation of a photo or 2). I think it works - what do you think? The sketch is below.

Scrappy Sunday Challenge and Best of the Scrapping Blogosphere

Another Scrappy Sunday challenge to lead off our week of scrapbooking goodies --

It's been a while since I have had the pleasure of hosting! I'm doing a traditional scrap layout today, but it's super easy, and feel free to go digi :)

In my sample, I did a page for my boys' day at the All Star baseball game and homerun derby. I didn't have a lot of strong photos for this event, so I changed the center photo to an embellishment.

A couple of tips and tricks for this layout. I LOVE Cosmo Cricket paper collections. They are good for the color challenged of us out there, that need some help coordinating papers. I'm CHEAP with paper -- I didn't want to use up two pages in order to make this one layout, so I cut the center square out and then flipped the page over and taped it back together! Here's a close up of the back so you can see how I have it taped.

AiVault Challenge

Our Supernova team on Paper Craft Planet was invited to host a challenge this week sponsored by AiVault.com.  The challenge is to make something... anything... using product from their store.  (Here is a link to some great freebies, so that you can play along!)

Our team all created projects using the Super Hero set.  How stinkin' cute is this set?!  Seriously, fun, right?!   These adorable images print in full color -- so unlike the new digi stamps, you just print and you're done :)

I decided to have some fun with Photoshop and created this entirely digital invitation.

 

I altered the image just a bit to get the "5" on the chest.  This is great for party invitations -- you can just print as many as you need.  Best part, you could easily make thank you notes too.

How about this cake that I made for Jake's birthday last year:

 

This was surprisingly simple to decorate.  I took my digital images to my local Publix grocery store and asked the bakery to print the images on icing paper!  For about $8/sheet, you can decorate cookies, cakes, anything with icing with your own custom images. 

You can take this idea even further --

 

Make your own gift or goodie bags -- I used digital images to create the name tags and then images of comic book postage stamps for the rest.

I thought I'd start this week's scrapbooking post with a challenge.  Every weekend, Jen Tapler head's up our scrapbooking challenge on Paper Craft Planet.  She gives great tips and does a lot with the limited supplies of living on Maui, so I thought it would be fun to start off the scraplist with Jen's challenge. 

From Jen -- "This week's sketch was inspired by the layout I created to go along with my sample from last week's sketch. Sometimes I create single page layouts and sometimes I like to coordinate my double-page layouts, which is what I did with these two samples. So the sketch from this week works quite well with last week's sketch to complete a 2-page spread. The sketch is below.
