Fun with Photoshop

Perhaps I should preface this blog post by saying that we were at the beach last week and I ALWAYS have my camera in hand. My kids have stopped posing for me and I go mostly ignored -- but sometimes, I get crazy faces and other antics. I was looking through the pics this morning and came across this goofy picture of Eric.

It just makes me laugh.  I showed it to him and he says, "Mom, you should put a shirt on me and put me over a city."  Sarcasm.  Sigh.  My gift to my children.

 

Hee Hee.  I'm cracking myself up.  It's crappy Photoshop work, but I was just messing around.  I think I'll frame it and hang it in his room.

Crafting 101, Tutorial Tuesday: July 28, 2009

OOOOH!  CHA has started in Orlando.  I'm LOVING watching all the pictures come in.  I haven't seen any video yet -- and I'm dying to see the new tools.  Someone please send me a link if you find one!  I'm so curious about all the new goodies!

I have a special tutorial to feature today --I made friends online with Faith.  Faith owns a great webstore, Inspired Designs by Faith.  I read her blog and mentioned to her that I thought she should do some "how to" stuff.  We'll she shared this great tutorial on making your stationary and seriously looks like store bought.  I actually have catalogs from Swoozies (a cute store here) that has this exact same stationary in it!!!!  So anyway, without further ado -- check it out!

3d#22 - I Would Die for You

I keep hearing that Prince song in my head... "I Would Die For You"... complete with hand motions. This is what I get for doing our challenge so late at night :) I had a bad case of fickle mojo and I changed our project about 20 times in the last day. In the end, this is what I came up with, and I have to say, I'm finally satisfied. Here is the challenge: Use a Die in a different way. Here, I used the scalloped envelope die from Sizzix and Stampin' Up! to make a couple of boxes:

For the box with the cookies, I just glued the flaps of four envelopes together to form the box. There is no lid -- so this would also work as a basket if you added a lid. After some playing, I added a 3" square of cardstock to the bottom of the box to add reinforcement. For the box with the monogram and brownie, that's actually two of the envelope die cuts with one 2 3/4" x 12" strip of kraft cardstock, scored at 2 1/4", 5 1/2", 7 3/4" and 11". I corner rounded the edges of the flap. Now, it's your turn! Make something different with a die and share it in our gallery. Tag your photo with the keyword "3d22" so that we can find it. Sorry for my absence this week.  I went with my mom to St. Augustine for vacation.  I thought we'd have Internet, but it turned out to be a bit unpredictable.  You had to sit in a certain chair and hold your tongue just right... you know the drill.  Anyway, I came home to literally thousands of blogs to read and I'm just now catching up.  I'll post some pictures and creations tomorrow, but in the mean time, here's Scrapbook Saturday :)

MyGrafico Challenge

We have a really fun challenge for you today -- it's a product challenge, sponsored by MyGrafico. To play along, create ANYTHING using one of the MyGrafico images -- they have a ton to choose from, but if you're trying to cut costs, here's  a link to some free images. 

Post your project in the Paper Craft Planet photo gallery, and use the tag "PCPgrafico". (Here is a tutorial on adding pictures to the gallery, if you need it.)  MyGrafico has generously offered a $10 gift certificate to the store to one of our lucky challenge players.

The Supernovas and I all used the Forest Friends digi stamp set for our cards.  I picked the owl image.  Owls are so hot right now, and I didn't have any.  I printed the owl on Neehah paper from the Paper Temptress.  (I've tried lots of different papers, but for my HP Photosmart, this is the only one that I can color with Copics and the ink won't smear.) 

Just a note about working with digital stamps:

• You do NOT have to have a photo editing software.  You can just open and print these jpg images.
• If you have a photo editing program, the images come in both jpg and png files.  You can resize the images and combine them into scenes with just a click of the mouse.
• Digital images last forever and require very little storage space!
• There are several great tutorial videos over on Paper Craft Planet that will show you how to use digital images, if you have any questions.

Card of the Week & Best of the Blogosophere: July 9-16, 2009

I thought I'd start off today's post by saying that I found some mojo and spent yesterday finishing out my niece's birthday gift. I was totally inspired by this post by Lauren Meader. Lauren comes up with some of my favorite ideas and this one is an idea that I'll use over and over again. It's a cupcake mix in a jar, along with an adorable basket. I included some other birthday treats as well -- a candle, confetti, a gift card, and of course, a birthday card.

I used the Pack a Picnic "My Timeless Template" and it really did go together in a snap. If you want to copy this idea, you'll have to make the larger basket to hold the small jelly jar. Here's close up picture of the cupcake mix, in the jar.

I'm such a good aunt that I tested the recipe first to make sure the cupcake was actually good. It was DELICIOUS! You mix it up and bake it right in the small jar. It bakes in 3 minutes in the microwave and it's like a chocolate chip muffin. I didn't put frosting on it -- but I do think it would be wonderful as is, with ice cream. 

My advice to you is to make a bunch of these and keep them on hand for last minute gifts.  They are really cute, go together in a snap and look fabulous.

"You're the Bomb, Baby" Inspiration Challenge

It's a luggage tag ~ I'm going to make them for all of us.  I love how it turned out.  This particular stamp is from the Girl's Ruin set.  It's a hilarious set on how shoe's are every girl's downfall.

First, a funny share -- I stumbled across this site while blog hopping.  It's a brilliant piece of social media marketing by ProvoCraft for their new Gypsy die cutter.  It appears that this machine will be a small, portable, electronic die cutter that will compare and compete with the Making Memories Slice.  I can tell you that after watching the videos, I can already feel my wallet burning with desire -- simply put, I want one.
